What Happen to CD-Helper.com?

i hated the mods and ruler of said cd-helper ,.. but the some of the people there were gems to know.

do anyone know what happen to the site ?

i still stay in contact with some of the heavy hitters on that site but no one really knows why it never came back up.

thanks

lordsmurf 03-04-2013 06:41 PM

I noticed that, too, some months back.
There was nothing left there aside from copying games, and that's probably got them in trouble.
The traders, collectors, etc -- they'd long ago left. It was just people buying/selling game copies.

It's been gone for months, since at least the fall of last year.

DAJIZZARIZZA 03-04-2013 07:43 PM

wow ,.. so it degraded to nothing just about.

trading has not been the same for years since tv series and old cartoons were and now being released officially.

though i miss the old days a bit.

SavageAmusement 03-04-2013 10:59 PM

I noticed it, but was hoping they would come back with a new website etc...I was very friendly with a few there, and am irked I lost touch with them- never saved any emails just assumed they would be around forever---sigh

lordsmurf 03-05-2013 06:31 PM

Well, this one's not going anywhere. It's been around since 1999. :)

rockman666 03-07-2013 06:44 AM

hah, I forgot you were a member of this forum, Eli :-) At least you still stay in touch with me LOL

CD-Helper apparently didn't pay the bill from what I've been told. After talking to a few of the regulars there, I also heard they were not bringing it back. Its too bad, I did most of the dealings on there........and much like Savage, I didn't save many e-mails or contact info for anyone either. I guess I'll look around other forums and see if I run into anyone from there.

lordsmurf 03-08-2013 12:40 PM

CD-Helper.com refugees are welcome here at TVPast.org

We're here for the long-haul. Always have been, always will be.

Even medical problems by both owners doesn't keep us down!
I swear Savage and I lived at the hospital more than or own homes these past few months. But we keep on keeping on.

// Note, rockman666 please fix: mailbox is full: retry timeout exceeded

rockman666 03-08-2013 05:38 PM

Damn, it happened again where I had to manually delete my e-mails from the internet based site. I tell Outlook to delete them immediately......obviously it didn't listen to me LOL. Thanks for the heads up.

DAJIZZARIZZA 03-08-2013 08:59 PM

lol

lol,.. i did not know you were here ,.. i'm worst than you.

smurfs invites makes me cringe [xx(]
if Big from cd-helper ever comes here , i'm out!
he was a punk bi_ch then, and i'm sure that has not change.

anyway good folks like you old buddy , chocobo, gamemaster, and letsmod are ones i never wanted to lose contact with,.. glad i stored your emails.

if it was not for my being banned there, i would had never built my collection of kungfu and japanese films thanks to "kung fu cinema" and other solo collectors i came across while wondering the desert for 1 year ,..lol.

rockman666 03-09-2013 08:36 AM

I still stay in touch with gamemaster and just found chocobo's e-mail in my contacts list. I'm sure this will be much to your dismay but I do keep in contact with Big too. I'm trying to get into another CD-H style board that gamemaster and Big are both members of and as soon as the 2 of them back me up with referrals, I'll be in. Do to a database error, I got right in the first day before it was discovered I never proved myself. Its not nearly as organized as CD-H was but has the same trading elements. I couldn't find private messaging or a search option........I'm hoping they exist when I am a full fledged member.

Anyway, bro......good contacts are hard to come by and I'm glad you're one of mine :-) Stay in touch and you always know where to find me.......as long as my e-mail box isn't full LOL (that's the second time that happened to me)

yeah let chocobo know about the new forum as well ,.. he would like that too.
and say hey to gamemaster for me , it's been a while since i traded with him.
ohh and ask him if he's still into oriental movies ,.. i have tons.

ketterman2 04-23-2013 07:20 AM

I was a member of Cd-Helper.com. I wish it was still around.

SavageAmusement 05-05-2013 08:56 PM

Since so many people miss it, maybe we can re-create some of what the forum did, here-- anyone interested?

ketterman2 05-06-2013 06:17 AM

I'm interested.

davidflecha17 05-08-2013 11:41 AM

They did a lot of raffles and recently had a download forum.

SavageAmusement 05-08-2013 12:26 PM

I can manage a few raffles easily, or rotate them with the contests I run (which does everyone KNOW there are contests here yet? there is one right now matter of fact)

download forums are hard....LS will have to think on that one, it can cause some problems- although in a private forum password protected, it could be doable...hmm

lordsmurf 05-08-2013 12:45 PM

We could do a "download of the month" kind of deal. Similar to mailed contests.
Maybe hold a vote one month, to download the winning item the next. Rinse, repeat.
Vote thread (next month) and download thread (this month) are concurrent.

We'll have monthly newsletters by end of summer. :)

rockman666 05-08-2013 07:09 PM

The thing that I miss most about CD-H is the people I met who....ahem.....did creative things with my video game consoles and handheld systems that miraculously played games that I didn't pay for :D I kept in touch with some of the people but I guess I was too naive in thinking that CD-H would be around forever that I didn't save anyone's e-mail address externally because I had their info saved on my website account. Of course, I'm guessing that kind of stuff would be discouraged here. We're already pushing the envelope with trading officially released cartoons DVDs and BDs. But if I'm wrong on any of that, feel free to correct me hehehe :)

hornetsting 05-14-2013 12:56 PM

I miss CDH as well, a bunch of top notch people were members!

Just had to chime in & say Hi to old CDH friends!

lordsmurf 06-27-2013 02:29 AM

Again, all former members that I recognize will be verified here.
Former members should PM to get verified. You can be another CD-H refugee at a new home!

Gamemaster 07-22-2013 06:59 PM

Ok guys the Gamemaster is here now nice to see same CD-HELPER member on here

rockman666 07-23-2013 07:25 AM

Welcome to the family, Ken. Always nice to see a trading guru like yourself join up with an already elite forum.

Cd-helper refugees

Hi fellow cd-helpers

I was a relatively infrequent member but did a lot of stuff over the years with those guys. I remember doing a paypal donation a year before they closed to handle web fees so I was kind of disappointed that they let it go without asking for help (assuming that it was just money and not other issues).
This seems like a cool site for some tv stuff; anybody have a good recommendation for the console game expertise and discs?

PM or email me

lordsmurf 11-21-2013 02:10 AM

I sometimes wonder if something happened to Big or kidneyboy.
I really doubt it was about money.
It may have been hacked finally, as they were using the most secure setup, and didn't have a backup.

Oh well, it's gone. Again, everybody is welcome here. :)

I know some things about console games. Just post in the general discussion (coffee cup) forum.

rockman666 11-25-2013 11:32 AM

I talked to Big after the forum closed and he had said it was money related although, not really sure who was in charge of paying the bill. I've known him for a long time before I became a member of CD-H (I can't even remember how I found out about the forum in the first place) so I'd be pretty surprised (and disappointed) if he would lie to me about it. Either way, its gone and I've been a member on here probably just as long and I'm still here and in good company :)

Any chance of getting a forum dedicated to CD/DVD based console game trading, LS? I know it can be a shady topic breaking a lot more copyright laws than dealing with cartoons......but that was my primary involvement on CD-H and met a lot of good dudes in the process who I deal with privately now and would certainly love to build up something equally as cool. I'd even offer to help moderate it if its something you and the other mods would agree to. If there's something I am beyond an expert in (besides Transformers hehe).....its console games :)

lol,.. if they open such a forum Rock ,.. you would be the king of the mountain,..[:u]

but seriously, there are no issues with having a "DISCUSSIONS" thread i assume,.. AND NOT a lets trade games thread,.. we can always use "pm's" and "emails" to futher such tabooed areas.

mvaughn2987 03-05-2014 08:26 AM

I was also a user of CD-Helper off and on. I learned a lot from those guys. The first guy who traded with me was TheCopyZone, anyone remember him? I found this place searching for CD-Helper.

Lots of good folk here. If you need any help with anything, let me know.

LS edit:

The point of TVPast is to use the site. The forums are more than a decade old, and we'll soon add a wiki and main/front-site articles. Be a member here, enjoy what we have to offer.

It's been a rule for many years now to not promote "competing" sites -- most of which are not actual competitors, just noise. I long ago got tired and disgusted with people setting up forums on those ad-driven freebie forum-maker sites, then coming here and saying "hey everybody, forget this place, go there!" Because that's essentially what you're doing.

Also: you're playing by their rules, not yours, so that site is already doomed to failure and deletion. I've been around since the 90s. I've seen that pattern play out for at least 15 years now.

Essentially, don't (try to) steal our members. [}:)]

cp32 12-02-2016 04:43 PM

You just found the grandpa of the community lol lol You think I m old ? Old ken been around kicking old ladies off their canes for years. he is honest, fast trader ( unlike myself lol) , and good person too. I support him :)
aka Gamemaster.
No issues with BIg hes honest fast too. ( although I was banned lol within his right to do so. I deserved it. I did made things right even after I was banned lol ) But that's the past. -

Infact, I had a lot of friends of over there. Just like there are lot goof cross over comics/ series. Nothing wrong with cross over members here . Rizza is Rizza lol A straight jacket couldn't refrain his opinions lol .

Glad to see CD-H is still remembered after all of these years. I can't believe how long its been gone. It seems like yesterday......that's kinda what happens when you get old, you blink and a year goes by LOL. I've sadly lost touch with a lot of the guys I kept in touch with after CD-H closed, mostly because I haven't had much reason to trade. It's hard to find stuff that I'm looking for when I already have 50tb of DVD isos.

Ohh towards the end I remember there was a buy in group to get ahold of a PSX ISO Collection. I was so jealous I didn't have money at the time to get in. They were basically mailing the collection to each other. lol now its just one fast trip to an emulation site and it's all there.

Yeah, back then everything was on physical media so we all had rooms in our houses full of JUST discs. Now, I probably have 50 discs TOTAL in my house and everything else is on external hard drives as ISOs that I mount to virtual drive and play on a PC using a well designed emulator. I'm also a member of a few gaming sites that deal in mostly retro stuff (from PS2 and earlier) and pretty much have anything you could ever need. :)

The era of streaming and torrents is to "blame", because lots of what we used to scrimp and scrounge for, in any quality, is now available fully released, sometimes even restored. And of course, that's not really a bad thing. There's still reason to trade, as not everything is available, and it still happens quite a bit, but less so now that the 1990s and 2000s.

I think gaming has shifted a lot, too. PSX is not seen as vintage, just old. I've seen large downloads of the old ISOs available, but those seems unpopular due to size alone.

I'm with you on that.....my entire collection is on NAS drives (I've got 7 of the 12tb devices just for the DVD video stuff) and I stream it all through the house using WDTV, BoxeeBox and KDLinks devices. It's a beautiful thing not having to look for discs anymore :D

I really like the menu of shows viewable on TV.

"Hmm.... do I feel like re-run of Get Smart? Nah. Too corny right now."
< Looks some more >
"Maybe something newer like NCIS? Nah, too serious."
< Looks some more >
"I feel sciency right now. Hmmm... how about that science documentary I keep meaning to watch? Also too serious..."
< Looks some more >
"I know! Star Wars!"
< Looks some more >
"Ah, Clone Wars. Perfect!"

Total time: 2-3 minutes sitting in my recliner with remote in hand.

All without having to dig around, get sidetracked when I can't find the disc I want, and getting frustrated.

It's like having my own TV network in-house. :D

Exactly right. I have all of my stuff broken down by category too, each NAS device holds similar content broken down by cartoons, movies, tv shows, wrestling etc.....also, everything in alphabetized with sub folders #-Z, some stuff I have in its own folders if I have like 20 discs of a certain show just so its not crowding a particular letter in the alphabet. I just basically point my media player to the root directory of each device and when I boot it up, ALL the directories are right there to sift through. So my media player basically shows these at startup all as ISO files and everything has full menu support except the blu-ray ISOs
Cartoons (#-M)
Cartoons (N-Z)
Movies (#-H)
Movies (I-Z)
Blu-ray #-H)
Blu-ray (I-Z)
TV Shows
Music
Wrestling 1
Wrestling 2

Truly a space saver and most importantly, a time saver :D

davidflecha17 11-15-2017 09:05 AM

You can find all the old games on archive.org. They all work great on the shield tv.
