In 1983, John Erickson's HANK THE COWDOG was published. Not long after that, my mother bought the first two books (the first one was so popular that a sequel quickly followed), and both my father and myself read them. That was quite a feat, as my father was out of school and hated reading, and I was in school and hated reading.

The HANK series of books were sold in the "Texana" section of bookstores throughout the state, and it was originally a regional book from a small Texas publisher.

I remember one of my gradeschool teachers at the time scolding me because my choice of book for the class book report was "a little bit too adult". Fast forward 20 years, and the books are now sold in the children's section. [88]

The stories are wholesome and entertaining, and stars Hank the Cowdog, the "head of ranch security" on a rural Texas ranch. It's written in first-person, Hank tells you his story from a dog's-eye point of view. Lots of loveable characters, from his sidekick mutt, to the ranch owner, to the vultures that live in a nearby tree. All sorts of crazy stories to quench the imagination.

My favorite are the Hobbit, the LOTR, and esp. the Silmarillion. My other favorites are the Harry Potter series and Eragon. I used to hate reading before I started reading Tolkien, but still only read select fantasy books.

I read sporadically, so it's hard to have a favorite series, and it changes from time to time as well. My most recent favorites have been:

His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman. Good stuff threr, MBates05, you would definitely like this.

Not really a series, but I have read all of Chuck Palahniuk's books and I think they are awesome. Some other series I have read or started reading:

Left Behind Series - not religious, but I find the story entertaining, I am on book 9 I think, have taken some time off.

Eragon and Harry Potter - both are great series

Dean Koontz - anything by him is good, his retelling of the Frankenstein story is awesome, I finished book 2 of 3 recently and it is a great story.

Phineas Poe: Kiss Me Judas, Penny Dreadful, Hell's Half Acre by Will Christopher Baer - a trilogy about Phineas Poe, an ex-cop who comes into so very awkward situations, halfway through the second novel and the story is still very fxxxed up to say the least!

I am sure there are more I just cannot think of them at the time.

I m a Tolkien Reader: Hobbit, LOTR , Farmer Giles of Ham , Lost Tales, Unfinished Tales, etc Wrote a lot of books & stories.

Comedy - DAve Berry , Carlin, Foley lol , Red Dwarf books are hiliarous.

Doc Savage!

Enders Game series. The best scifi writing available. By Orson Scott Card. Every scifi fan should have these on their shelf.

V. C. Andrews' books captivated me when I was younger, but these aren't the best reading material for me since I have a melancholy personality already as it is. :D

Now, anything by Agatha Christie and Robin Cook are my favorites.

I used to love the older Deathlands series (written by James Axler before his passing). It post-apocalyptic and I love that genre. I do not care for the many new authors they have doing the series currently. At any rate I mostly read now memoirs/biographies and other interesting subjects.

I'm an Anne Rice fan of the Vampire Chronicles. I have been since I was a teen. :D
