According to various MMA news sites Zuffa Entertainment, the parent company of the UFC is on the verge of buying the PRIDE organization from Dream Stage Entertainment (DSE). The deal has been agreed to in principle and barring a major reversal on the part of DSE, the sale should be completed shortly.

Personally, I think the sale of PRIDE to the UFC is great. We'll finally get to see most of the "Dream Match-ups" that the MMA fan has been wanting to see, Wanderlei Silva VS. Chuck Liddell, Fedor VS. Tim Sylvia, Arona VS. Ortiz, or even Cro Cop VS. Andrei Arlovski and others. It's also being reported that Zuffa will continue to run PRIDE as a seperate entity from the UFC, resulting in a "Super Card(s)" at some point. Lets just hope that the powers that be don't botch things up ala Vince McMahon when he accquired WCW back in 2001...What could've been had Vince not tripped over his own ego!!!

Ahhhh...What a great time it is to be an MMA fan!

It will be good if they run it as a seperate entity because they have different rules and regulations. I think that pride is like the old UFC because I believe that there are no weight classes, and there is less illegal moves. Not to mention that UFC has an Octagon and Pride has a boxing-type ring.

I don't think UFC would work in Japan. UFC is designed to be fast pased and sometimes sloppy fighting while Pride seems to be more professional, accurate and precise fighting, something which the japanese perfer seeing. It is also more serious than UFC.

With that being said, I don't think Pride would work in USA.

To me it seems that there is more honor and feeling in the fighters in pride. Though there are some fighters who love the sport, UFC just seems to be a place where people earn money to fight.

I believe Cro Cop is already in UFC.

I really hope that they don't screw up the Pride formula.

The deal is signed...sealed...and delivered. Zuffa is now the proud owner of PRIDE FC. After a decade long war (created by the fans of both orgs.), Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta have acheived the impossible, the domination of the MMA world. Fans of both orgs should know that eventhough PRIDE FC is now owned by the powers that be in the UFC, PRIDE FC will continue to run autonomously from the UFC, with seperate PRIDE events continually being held in both the U.S. and Japan. What this merger also means is that all of those dream matches that fans have ben clamoring for can now finally T
take place in yearly "Super Shows"....Ah what a great day it is to be an MMA fan!

Hopefully they can show what SHOULD happen when a company buys out another.

This just makes me bitter all over again on how Vince McMahon botched the hell out of the WWF/WCW purchase.
