grumpy old man #1 - broadcast warnings for smoking?

was watching a film on tv recently.
whenever any of the actors smoked, the broadcasting station would flash up a dangers of smoking sign.

what the hell man?
has PC gone mad?

and they didn't even make it like a "ticker message" that scrolls at the bottom of the screen. it was a big icon in the lower left of the screen.

totally spoiling the action.

one more reason to not watch tv.

I am actually shocked! That's ridiculous! Do they also put up warnings about driving fast when there is a high speed chase?

and it was ridiculous that they flashed the smoking sign warnings, but nothing for the massive fight scene that followed. so bashing someone's head in is OK, but smoking is a no-no? strange indeed.

probably the worst of it was that the smoking was not done in a cool way, ie to suggest that smoking was the "in" thing. it was a scene in which the smoking was secondary to the action.

so the warning sign may indeed be counter productive in that it focused one's brain about smoking, whereas before, the smoking may have gone unnoticed.

ah well, what to do?
just have to accept and move on.
