from what i've read on the internet (and who would trust that medium?!) if you get the T&J spotlight collection volume 2, then all the cartoons are uncut / uncensored.

however, you must make sure you get the re-issued discs as they messed up the initial release.

and as good as that is, the downside is that the image quality is not as great as it can be. mainly due to the loss of the original film stock in a fire or something.

so it looks like between the T&J spotlight releases and the HK set we can put together a full, uncut, uncensored, HB set.

part time pal - if BCDB are to be believed, this aired on March 15, 1947.

yet i have seen this short cartoon given a 1946 air date in other sites !

so which is it?
i tend to favour BCDB.

what do you say?

@Uncle Chuck
Indeed, too pricey for probably 99%+ of members. I just wanted to mention something like that exists.

I'd opt for Virtualdub, Avisynth or even Avidemux over Handbrake. Handbrake is a "dummy friendly" all-in-one sort of program. It just does basics, nothing higher end, in terms of quality. I doubt it would help much for this sort of project.

@manthing
I'd have to see video clips -- original/unaltered -- to know if it's interlaced.

I base the copyright date to be 1946 because of the roman numerals they have on the episode title. It's a little hard to read but it says MCMXLVI
It was also ordered differently in the Hong Kong set. The episode before it was 1946 and the episode after was 1946.

I took a snapshot of that scene with Tom and the female cat so you can compare it with the rest of the sets. Its the last frame where you can still see the end of Jerry's tail on Tom's hand.

I like the menus on the 10 dvd set.

Just checked my episode, it's audio2. The second one sounds more southern than the first one. Her voice kind of reminds me of LaWanda Page.

Nice! Let me know if you need any episodes from me for your set. Maybe I can upload them on rapidshare.

Audio 1 is the "politically correct" dub. I think it sounds like Oprah. It's just awful.
Audio 2 is the original Mammy.

I could walk into the off-downtown area locally, and find black women that sound either way.
If you told an Audio2 sound-alike that she sounded too stupid to be the voice for the T&J cartoon, she'd slap you upside the head, guaranteed. Maybe even send her big boyfriend/husband/baby-daddy after you. That's what should be done to the PC clown that oversaw this butchering of classic Americana.

ok, i've created my own set of hanna-barbera t&j cartoons.
all uncensored & uncut (- that is as far as i know).

114 in total.
on 6 DL dvds.

these 23 in widescreen format:
Pet Peeve
Touché, Pussy Cat!
Southbound Duckling
Pup on a Picnic
Tom and Chérie
That's My Mommy
The Flying Scorceress
The Egg and Jerry
Busy Buddies
Muscle Beach Tom
Down Beat Bear
Blue Cat Blues
Barbecue Brawl
Tops with Pops
Timid Tabby
Feedin' the Kiddie
Mucho Mouse
Tom's Photo Finish
Happy Go Ducky
Royal Cat Nap
The Vanishing Duck
Robin Hoodwinked
Tot Watchers

these which were excluded from the spotlight collections:
The Million Dollar Cat
Mouse Cleaning
Casanova Cat
Busy Buddies

plus a 7th bonus disc with these:
Buddies Thicker than Water [Gene Deitch, 1962]
Animators as Actors
Behind the Tunes
Cat and Mouse- The Tale of Tom and Jerry
How Bill and Joe Met Tom and Jerry
Introduction by Whoopi Goldberg
Jerry Dances with Gene Kelly [excerpt from 'Anchors Aweigh', 1945]
The Comedy Stylings of Tom and Jerry
Tom and Jerry Swim with Esther Williams [excerpt from 'Dangerous When Wet', 1953]

the source was a compromised one.
the originator did all sorts - like make it progressive, having non NTSC/PAL dimensions etc.

so i did the best i could given the nature of the source.

all the cartoons are watchable.
nothing too off-putting.
but you will notice a few artefacts here and there.

what i will do in the future is get hold of the spotlight collection and re-do this set with a mix of the official releases.

until then i am happy enough with this set.

does anyone have "give and tyke" and "scat cats"?
these are cartoons not featuring tom & jerry - sort of spin-offs.

i'd love to be able to incorporate them as bonuses in my set.

so, let me know if you have them.
thanks.

I did a quick google search, don't know what the quality is like - hope this helps: "give and tyke"

MD - yeah i've seen 40MB files for the 2 cartoons. really, those will be pretty bad quality. but if these are the only ones we have, then so be it.

I'm interested in a set too.

I found this but I believe it's just the soundtrack for the episodes:

http://www.verycd.com/topics/2888919/

That site has a lot of Tom and Jerry stuff but the episodes might be in Chinese.
