Hi Everyone
(& Especailly Lord Smurf)

Just wonderded what you thought of this peice of news!?!

SMURF NEWS...

Hollywood will be going through a blue period in 2008 with the release of a 3-D computer-generated animated Smurf feature film, the first in a trilogy.

Paramount Pictures has acquired the rights to the little blue guys created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo, Daily Variety reported.

Jordan Kerner and Nickelodeon Movies will produce the first film to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the birth of The Smurfs.

Screenwriter Herb Ratner (Mr. Lucky) has been tapped to write the script for the new movie. However, the storyline is being kept a secret.

Peyo, whose real name was Pierre Culliford, created The Smurfs (known in Korean as "Les Schtroumpfs") in 1958.

Initially well-known comic-book characters in Europe but not in the United States, the Smurfs appeared in their first animated film in 1965. Les Aventures des Schtroumpfs ran for 90 minutes in black and white and sank immediately into obscurity. The Belgian-Korean animated co-production La Flūte ą Six Schtroumpfs (1976) fared much better.

In 1981, the Hanna-Barbera series Smurfs debuted on NBC and became an instant hit, winning several Emmy awards over its 256 episodes. Capitalizing on the show's fame, the 1976 Belgian-Korean film was dubbed into English for American release in 1983 as The Smurfs and the Magic Flute.
