USB to HDMI adapter - useful in reverse?
 

Here's an interesting looking gadget http://www.usbhdmi.com/ , a USB-out to HDMI-in adapter, ostensibly for connecting audio/video (or "vedio," as they call it...) from a PC to a digital TV. Wonder if it could be used in reverse, to connect a satellite receiver's HDMI output to a PC's USB input?:confused:

I wouldn't use one of those. Quality is often subpar. See similar complaints for USB-to-VGA devices. Lots of reviews online for these.

I suspected as much. (a quote from my ex-wife...:>) Now that my XP PC is back to normal (yay!), capturing DirecTV and other video, so I can author and burn it, I'm wondering HOW I can capture DirecTV hi-def content onto my HP E9120Y Windows 7 PC (not that I'm sure what I'd do with it; Blu-Ray blanks are really coming down fast in price, so maybe that route, to burn and keep). I read about different people's claims that they're merrilly capturing hi-def files (maybe to just keep and play as a file, on their gigantic hard drives..). Since my W7 PC has only USB and Firewire 1394 inputs, seems like I'd have to use some kind of adaptor. I feel like I did, back in 2004, when I was contemplating capturing standard def video (and stumbled onto this here lordsmurf.com site, that helped guide the way; wasn't it called something else prior to digitalfaq? maybe not... ).

You need to use a HD card, like the Blackmagic cards.

And it makes massive files that are harder to work with, and making Blu-ray discs is not much fun either.
What you know about DVD isn't too terribly helpful, methods changed again.
