How much for a DVD dupplicator
 

Im thinking of buying a dvd duplicator for the first time and wondering what are the best to get in the UK, how much are they and where can i get them. would like more info about them.

I generally look at known media stores for a duplicator.
In the UK, that's SVP.co.uk. In the USA, it's Meritline or Supermediastore.
After seeing what is available, I see if the Amazon stores have better prices.

Duplicators are not cheap. They usually run about the same price as an inexpensive computer, because that's essentially what these are -- single-task specialty computers. Not much different than a DVD recorder, in this regard.

Most duplicators are also just the "controller" and maybe a DVD-ROM/CD-ROM. You have to buy the burner drives separately. In some cases, it's even wise to replace the DVD/CD-ROM with a burner, too. Most read-only drives tend to be crappy at giving a quality read on a burned source disc. I'd suggest using Pioneer or Samsung drives, too. Maybe Sony Optiarcs. Not LG, not Plextor, not Liteon.

When I was into fansub trading I used to get my covers from these guys, they sell duplicators to, but there in NTSC if you don't mind that.

Duplicators just copy discs -- they cannot be NTSC, PAL or anything else.
It's just raw data.

I have a Pioneer and I'm very happy with it. Somtimes it won't burn discs but I've found that it's usually a problem with the disc. I've even had problem discs complete burning in hours and the completed disc will copy just fine on the duplicator. I timed it one time and I found it that it copies working SL DVDs in about 7 and a half minutes.

How long does it normally take for a duplicator to copy a dvd compare to a PC. going to get rid of my pc and just use a duplicator.

I have a NEC that burns 3 discs at once and it cost me around $500.00 at the time. It burns up to 18x speed. It doesn't take any longer than my PC.

Well, a duplicator is a computer at its core.
The only difference would be if your current desktop/laptop computer is not optimized to burn discs at the fastest available rate. Most are not, so a duplicator would be faster, since it's a dedicated-task machine.

As I said before, my Pioneer duplicator usually takes about 7 and a half minutes to copy a SL DVD. Twice that long for DL. My computer could take up to 15 minutes to copy a disc. That's why I always use my duplicator whenever possible.
