This is legitimate freeware, and works great: http://www.streamtransport.com/

I'm saving the first 5 eps of Macross right now. :)

Now I can put them to DVD and watch on the big screen.

Bingo! LS
That's what I 've been using and its amazing.

Here's a little tip
Head on over to Amazon.com's VOD site ...
you will notice it's a pay site where you can Buy individual episodes or complete seasons but it allows you to view a two minute clip of what you want to buy. Well when you click on the link in your regular browser the video does indeed Stop after 2 minutes.

But on your streamtransport browser that same episode link is the Complete Episode!! And you save it for free!!

Since it is a pay site and you are taking somethinhg you should be paying for I suggest you use something like hotspot shield to hide your true location :)

happy downloading

p.s.

Can someone try it on netflix's streaming?
Our version of netflix in Canada is a liitle different still, they do not offer episode or movie streaming
I was wondering if its anything like amazon's VOD service with some kind of preview?

Try this software on other VOD sites and see what happens and please report your findings

For proof of concept, I tried to use Stream Transport on an Amazon episode of Batman the Brave and the Bold, the second season two-part Starro Pt1. It didn't work.

I tried it on the 1954 Dragnet movie, too. Failed there, too.

I'm trying the Brave and the Bold episode right now and it seems to be working just fine ....
This is the URL I pasted in the StreamTransport Browser
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XXHZMC

When the page loads hit the "Play Free Preview" Button
and you should see the download link in the bottom half window
(Note: I'm doing this behind Hotspot Shield because the site won't work with a Canadian IP)

episode is 23:02 in length
resolution 704 x 396

joker, did as you suggested with hotspot shield & transport stream.
but i don't get the download link in transport stream.
so, what do i have to do to get that download link?
thanks.

you have to manually copy & paste the url in the Stream Transport browser (top) and hit the enter button. (NOT the start button)

You may have to try it 2 or 3 times before the URL you want is accepted on the Stream Transport Browser.

Make sure to erase everything that's there first and post the URL
(for this Batman episode http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XXHZMC )

I tried it again, but it doesn't work. Perhaps you have an older/special version? Oh well, that's probably for the best anyway. Hulu is free to view, so I don't see the harm in putting it on a disc so I can see it larger than 19" -- but taking files from Amazon isn't really the same.

Probably not the best topic to discuss in public. Interesting topic, but maybe inappropriate.
Closing this one. Sorry.
