How to record Netflix streaming?
 

anyone have a way to record netflix streaming videos they would like to share with me. i thought about connecting my computer up to my tv and playing the episode on there while recording with a dvd recorder or playing them through my ps3 and recording with a dvd recorder from the tv. would either way work?

All legalities aside, yes, both of those methods should work.
It's just an easy analog re-capture. I don't believe Netflix streaming has an embedded copy protection in use.

Streaming quality is generally lower than disc-based formats. For long-term archiving, I'd suggest buying/acquiring the official releases, if available. Does Netflix offer unreleased material, for which reason I would understand a need to record? I've not had a chance to use Netflix streaming much.

I don't even have time to watch all the MLB games I paid for (2011 season sub). Hmmm... I wonder if I could record a few favorite games from that, to watch later.

i understand the quality is not as good but they have some cartoons that i want and will never see a dvd release. thanks for the reply.

They air Spider Riders on thistv. Probably not all of them since they haven't aired all the episodes of any series.

well i don't have cable or satellite so i rely on the internet for all my shows.

I heard audials works for this chore havent tried it.

Software like Audials is really just a scam. It's nothing more than a desktop capture program. You can get those for free. Or better yet, to avoid dropped frames and audio sync problems (VERY COMMON!) associated with screen capturing, just do what ty3 suggested in the very first post -- recording the analog out from the computer. It won't have any of the problems associated with the lousy rip-off software, and quality will not be much different.

True I thought about try that trough XBOX lol.. for like PR or VR Troopers or Beetleborges to get caps with out TV logos lol..

Just wanted to update in here a little.. I tried just for a theory not really caring on quality using my jvc dvd recorder hooked the xbox into the input and got a copy protection error telling me wont record. Just FYI to those thing of hooking console up to something.

I think you posted some images in the wrong order. The "before" looks more like the after.

Did you consider changing your monitor's resolution temporarily, in order to record a more accurate area?
This appears to be a limitation of your specific capturing program.

Also, please attach images to forum posts, not links to other sites that will delete your images someday.
When that happens, nobody else can learn from these posts.

What do you mean ? When I originally recorded the area the resolution was set to 1400x900 or vice versa sorry at work. Also no the original is what it looks like after the screen cap is done this is through wmc and the 720x480 is what it looks like when I run it through an encoder.

So you are suggesting I turn my resolution down to 720x480? As it will still record the window which I will post a example when I get home of what it looks like when I get home before I edited the first little. As I believe with the way "FRAPS" works it may cause the actual video window "aka the main content" to shrink if that makes since?

How to record from a Netflix device digitally (budget: $100)
 

Screen capture is okay, but if you record from a hardware device that you own you can avoid dropped/repeated frames and having to mess around with window sizes to get standard resolutions.

Prereq:

• Some experience with video capture
• Netflix streaming device with HDMI output
• Windows desktop computer with PCIe slot that meets the system requirements
• A strong desire to record something that is only available on Netflix
• $100 burning a hole in your pocket

Steps:

1. Buy the Avertv HD DVR.
2. Install the drivers from the CD or download the version ending in .22 from internet posts. Any newer version disables the HDCP workaround.
3. Install VirtualDub and any version of the Aver Media Center application.
4. Open the Aver Media Center application. Don't select anything on it, just leave it open in the background. This is what will allow you to record the HDCP-encrypted input.
5. Open VirtualDub, go to Capture AVI, choose the appropriate video and audio inputs and resolution. Set the compressor of your choice.

6. Set the resolution on your device to match. 480p for SD shows. Note, the Xbox outputs nonstandard 480p so either don't use it or capture at 720p.
7. Open your Netflix app, play, capture.

That may come in useful for me this year. I have a Samsung BD-D5700 Blu-ray player, with MLB.tv access, and this method would be good for recording some games. Every year, there's at least one good game worth saving -- be it some kind of milestones (no hitters), or even a good fight (Nolan Ryan vs Robin Ventura!)
