MPEG-4 to DVD - Need Help
 

i have a bunch of avi files - they are xvid mpg4 variety - and am wondering what's the easiest/best way to convert them to dvd?

what app will do the job?
free app(s) are better!

it is mpeg4 - 23.976 frame/s - 624x464 pixels - 1.345 sar.

so how would i go about converting these into ntsc mpg2 / m2v (+ audio) files and ready for my dvd authoring?

i'm trying out convertxtodvd.
am unsure about the settings.
i've left things as default.

the rate is ntsc 30 frames per second - which seems fine.
tho from gspot, its meant to be 23.976?
so which is it?

please let me know what other settings to tweak in convertxtodvd.

VSO ConvertXToDVD is one of the best programs for this. Quality, easy, quick.

I think VSO is just dumbing down the framerate specs for dumb people. You and I know NTSC is 29.97fps, but that's too many numbers for the average video-downloading goober.

The aspect ratio may just be wrong. Lots of random video uploads are screwed up. You'll need to allow ConvertXToDVD to auto crop/stretch as needed. Or you can do it manually to make it fit strict DVD-Video specs. 4:3 is about 1.33, so somebody was likely cropping the video badly and it's off by several pixels.

yeah i sort of figured things out.
final output looks good enough - given the input that is.

what version of windows are you using?

win 7 x64.
are you going to suggest something other than ConvertXToDVD?

ya i was but its a real pain to get the program to work on win 7 x64

im using same windows but i had to do some code in visual studio and CMD to get it to work in a force 32bit mode.


i think FAVC is hands Down the best or anything that uses HDenc for its encoding to dvd.

convertxtodvd to me is garbage get ghosting and all kinds of crap when converting.

mkv, avi, mp4 all work best with HCenc encoding

but this is just my opinion. try to get both and see which one produces video quality that you prefer.

if u want the info to make it work with x64 windows i can tell u but u need visual studio 2010

yeah, i've used AVStoDVD & HEnc before - but that was when i ha win XP. i'll think about it and get back to you in a few days time - give me time to see the output from ConvertXToDVD.

konfusion - one thing you could do is use VM. setup XP 32bit in that and then use your converter within that environment. you get me?
