4:3 to 16:9 Conversion?
A friend of mine wants me to convert the aspect. It been a while since I ve done this. I m assuming you have to crop and pad? yes?
The video is clean it would be a shame to crop it. The original aspect is laser disc 4X3 How you go about doing this without stretching and cropping? I did a test run through tmpeg it look stretched when out as 16X9 display I have Tmpeg video mastering 6 , vegas , few other encoders. I also have premier. I just to check with you guys make sure I m doing this right. Most my projects dont entail coverting aspect ratios. [88] I leave them as they were originally intened I hate seeing the top of the actors heads cut off just nasty |
Crop and pad is the only way
|
You wanna walk me through it? Which program do you recommend? What settings to use. And where is my handsome smurf lol

Your friend is an idiot. You cannot "convert" an aspect. You can stretch it, or crop it, and both options suck.
My top pet peeves are: - chroma noise - distorted aspects - hissy/buzzy audio I can put up with many things -- but those cross the line. I'm not insulting my ears and eyes with garbage. :) |
I tried to explain those exact points. I personally will not convert an aspect. I leave it as it was originally intended. He insist on me doing this- Offered to pay me other wise I d tell him to ....Something that cant be said on this forum.

Widescreen Questions....hello
Okay, This movie was shot Big Man on Campus 1989 2.35 original aspect - vhs 4x3 but if you rent it on streamed sites it is WS - I explain this to this dude. so- I m tired of explain it my way...because I lack the patience -
So I need it explained in technical terms he can understand that a movie shot' 2.35 aspect ratio- released to laser disc and VHS are not going to be widescreen or as seen in theaters. for a movie from 1989 [88] released to VHS. I m tired of encoding this movie . I love the movies but I m done with encoding. I think what i did is better than his copy. 3 encodes is my limit. If someone would be kind enough to capture this for me. I ll do menus etc... lmk |
My limit for stupid is 0. I'd have never attempted such an encode, not even for pay (as he'll never be satisfied anyway).
Original AR 2.35 is cropped for "widescreen" (16x9). It's further cropped/butchered to 4x3. There are many images that show this online. For example: http://www.tvpast.org/forum/images/cache/2016/12/1.jpg Show him this. Print it out, tape it to his forehead. :p |
well since it was close to Christmas and the grandson needs more gifts from gramma I decided to go give a whirl- I would never have agreed to it. I am tired and aggravated. lol
