Opinion on DVD Media Scans: Pie/Pif/Jitter Errors?

See the images The values of the jitter, PIE, PIF, POF of the DVD-R 16x are good or bad? The disk was burn at 6x with imgburn

DeeSeven 12-16-2016 12:22 PM

Looks fine to me

lordsmurf 12-16-2016 12:29 PM

PIE is high.

Jitter is slightly high (9 or below preferred). Sometimes some model burners scan high, however.

Re-scan 8x.

Don't worry about surface scanning anymore (on this disc), just do PIE/PIF/jitter.

My drive is Liteon iHAS122 F Firmware EL06
This disk is bad and will not have the expectation of 15-30 years indicated by you in my storage conditions?

scan in 8x:

I use nothing but liteon burners. although they are pretty reliable ( and cheap) . It has one major flaw-
They are notorious for bad burns with certain media types . Do not use the verbatim in the store- Dont use- Memorex- Dont use- maxell- Use fuji phillips and gigaware( radio shack version of Ritek i think..is 2nd class media - it burns fine no bad burns at all. They do fine with TAI Yuden. It is a picky burner. If you are that afraid of failed burns. Get a different burner. Liteon are known for 30 out of 50 good burns. sometimes 40 . Just my spidey senses ...

lordsmurf 12-16-2016 06:56 PM

I'm afraid some of that info may confuse him.
- Verbatim "in the store" (in USA) is not MCC -- not for years now.
- LiteOn has had many generations of burner, the earlier and latter ones behave somewhat differently.
- Ritek has used Fuji oxonol dye for ages now, so your old Ritek experience is literally a decade of out date.

radioshack gigaware. Buy a pack you ll see . I realize Im old but I just got a pack last week the code was Ritek ;-P No I dont want to confuse anyone. lol

I would like to know if that my disc is bad or good, if it will take the life expectancy of DVD-R 16x Verbatim MCC 15-30 years because high PIE and if I should throw it in the trash or not, I burned 5 DVD-R 16x Verbatim MCC using This drive at the burn speed of 6x, and got similar values (PIE, PIF, jitter) on all disks, Liteon is bad for burning or scan or both?

What are the tips for getting low jitter, low PIE, low PIF? I did the right thing in acquiring a first-class Verbatim MCC 03RG20

Thanks for the help of you, without you I do not learn about optical media

cp32 12-17-2016 06:59 PM

Trail and Error is how we all learn. I just did a research paper on Optical Media -
as I continued to look - Research different sources for my answers I got better understanding for the devices, media, and what I needed to know. Do some reading off board - will help with some of your questions too. I m sure LS can provide some useful links to research . That way when you are not sure . You can go refer back to that article , print it out- Tape it on your Desk - Like a sticky note. That's what I do. I have a few of LS how to Guides Laminated and handy - I do not have that kind of memory. If I need to go back refresh my memory- or simply help someone else , there it is -

Like College cheat sheets. Print out a few data stats- specs, etc so you can say oh ok this is why this is happening or not happening. ;)

That last 8x scan had a bad area at the start. Re-scan it 8x, and again 4x.

Make sure you are not doing anything else.
Make sure the computer is not doing anything else.
Other stuff computing in the background (or foreground) can mess up the test.

The PIE was high. You never showed me that graph. That's the "disc quality" chart.

Re-scans in 4x and 8x of DVD-R 16x Verbatim AZO MCC 03RG20:
my doubt, this disc is not reliable for life expectancy 15-30 years in my conditions storage, i put disc bad in trash?

lordsmurf 12-18-2016 04:35 AM

I don't like that the scandisc showed read errors at 8x, coupled with high PIE errors. Personally, I'd burn another of that content.

I want to scan some samples of "good" discs, but I can't get to that yet. It'll be next month sometime. Busy now.

opticalmediafan 12-18-2016 04:41 AM

In my case was it bad burning or bad disk scan? I burned in 6x speed imgburn 6x is a speed that results too much error PIE, PIF and jitter?

I have another Drive LG GH24NS90 24X Sata, scan jitter, pie, pif, pof distorcion results?

You said that PIE and jitter are high and bad in the images With these high values PIE and jitter the disc DVD-R 16x Verbatim AZO ID: MCC 03RG20 will not have a useful life expectancy of 15-30 years (100% files good of disc burned) in my storage conditions? Is this dvd disc going to die early? All the disks I burned in 6x have the same values

Can someone answer my question? I posted the photos of the test

I told ya those Lite On are notorious for doing that....I am using a Lite now. I can buy top of the line media still have errors or some bad burns. Try not stress out so much over it.
Just enjoy the Good burns leave the "side Burns" alone:p;)

opticalmediafan 01-31-2017 07:45 AM

It has great difference of jitter, PIE, PIF tests from one drive to another drive, I tested jitter, PIE, PIF with nero discspeed 5 and lite-on drive ihas122-14 fu and the mdisc dvdr verbatim score was 95 and 93, this score is good or bad?
