Question about converting a download!
 

I just downloaded the first 8 eps of Jericho off of Demonoid. I thought they were HD avi files, but they have this on them HR.HDTV.ac3.5 with a SRT file of the same ep next to it. Are these avi files and can they be converted to DVD with VSO convertx or Nero? Everytime I try, I get a error message. wWat am I doing wrong here???

How do you watch these files? I really thought I could convert these and watch them on my DVD player. Does anyone have any suggestion??:(

That should give you all the files to play the file (srt and avi) and encode it to DVD

The SRT I think is a subtitle file which you will need the 2nd link

If you find you can't convert them, I have the series to date on disc direct from DISH (not HD, though) - let me know. "Red Flag" has a weird glitch in it where some dialogue is truncated in one scene - I think the satellite burped or something, 'cos it's in the original recording on the DVR. The other episodes are complete.

I can't get over how much I've come to like this series. The new web site opened today, according to Futon Critic. Apparently CBS is going to capitalize on the show's momentum by maintaining a web presence while the show's on hiatus.

Thanks Mark, I'm still a little confused but I downloaded the file. It strange these look like avi files, but they don't act like it and I keep getting an error message from VSO Convertx. Is the SRT file like a bin file??

I have gotten the same types of files for some shows. What I have done is open them in DVD2AVI, which saves as a .d2v file that can be read by TMPGEnc which I use to encode to an mpg2 file for authoring.


IF the original is letterboxed, you will need to use the following setting for TMPGENC to encode properly:

Set (on advanced tab) source 1:1 VGA, keep aspect ratio 2.
Set (on video tab) 720x480 4:3 display.


When you open your avi in DVD2AVI, you will want to decode the audio to WAV by setting this in the audio drop box, then select where you want the files it creates to be saved. Once that is done use the .d2v file it creates for the video input in TMPGEnc, and for the audio input use the WAV file it created.

There is a way to use the original AC3 if you want, but it will require you to use TDA 1.6 to multiplex, I can tell you how if you wish, but be warned that sometimes TDA gets the audio out of synch when it does this.

Strange, VSO Convertx works on the downloads now. May be it wasn't working because I hadn't downloaded all the files. I was just trying to convert the first two eps of eight so I could watch them.

Man, some of these HD downloads are better than recording it direct from TV.

VSO Convertx is great for converting downloads. Limited on the menu and title options but it does a great job where Nero and others don't. Thanks CP32 for turning me on to that program! Thats because a lot of the HD downloads are taken directly from the HD broadcast/stream which means the bitrate is enormous, we are talking about native 2-5gb recordings so its easy to convert into an AVI without butchering it. I watch HD broadcasts on a regular TV and it looks like DVD because of the high bitrate so I concur with your assesment!

Marcus , if you want to author those files you converted with vso.

Import DVD>

It will save as mpeg to your hard drive.

Do your own menus with those files :P

Photoshop is your best friend lol .

Well now that I have Ulead I don't have to mess with TDA. I've been using Nero, but you would be surprised about how VSO looks sometimes too.
