Alright, I'm going to add both a "chat room" and the "one on one" (aka "Facebook style") chat systems. I don't yet know which room I like, but I have found a perfect one-on-one chat system.
It is now installed.
It's easy to use.
You can see anybody that you are "friends" with. vBulletin, the software running this forum, has an integrated "social networking" functionality. To add a new friend, click on that person's profile (either their name in a post, or by searching the
Members list) and "befriend" them. It's that easy.
You can see your friend in the "Who's Online" at the bottom of any TVP forum page.
Unlike Facebook, however, changing pages may restart the chat. So keep chat up on one browser tab, and use another browser tab for any continued forum reading/posting you may be doing at the same time.
Your browser/computer must allow Javascript. If you're using a "block" plugin, like NoScript in Firefox, then you'll need to allow TVPreservation.com to run scripts.
