I'm actually quite impressed by the music of the girl band Aly & AJ (a pair of Disney actresses). They started off with religious music, were wooed by Disney to do some pop, and now they're doing a very 80s/90s rock-ish sound. They write they own lyrics and possibly some of their own music.

It's been many years since I've heard a band that "has it" like this. Less effects and a real guitar, plus a good bass, would really do it for them. Reminds me of a slightly lighter version of early Gwen Stefani (No Doubt). I'd love to hear a female-version cover of some 80s or 90s rock. Avril Lavigne tried some Metallica, GNR and other covers a few years back. She was okay, but not great. She didn't have the vocal range for it. These girls do. I might buy their latest album off Amazon when/if it goes on sale. The oldest one is 18. The other one is jailbait, at 16. I actually think these girls, along with Miley Cyrus, will turn into "good girls", instead of the trashy whores of the Disney past: Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Lindsay Lohan. I have a feeling Disney is becoming a bit more selective these days with whom they associate and help.

hi, i agree with ya. i like aly and aj as well. they do have an 80s sound. i guess that's why i like em. i've always liked female guitarists. i have some early peformances of aly & aj some where in my collection. thanks stoogedog

I love Aly and AJ. I've got all their albums to date, and I have to really recommend their Christmas album they brought out last year. Some really outstanding tracks, and I actually like the music they write.
I love the Like, Whoa music video. I've already grabbed that for my extras for Minutemen. As for Miley Cyrus, I like her songs better than the pre-packaged Hannah Montana numbers. GNO is a fun track. Oh heck, I wish I had kids so I could blame the fact that I watch Disney Channel and buy the albums on that, but I just plain like the shows and the songs. And I have to admit it's really nice to have these shows on the TV when my 81-year-old Mom comes down into my apartment and asks what I'm watching ... I don't have to be embarrassed by language or exposed skin (or gore). :> Disney is apparently deliberately trying to grow their stable of performers so they don't need to leave Disney and grow up too trashily. They've been promoting the heck out of the musical talents in the HSM movies for the same reason. So of course their poster child went and sent naughty cellphone shots of herself to the wrong boy, and they ended up on the internet a few months ago.
