MEGA-THRUSTERS ARE GO!!

Here at TVShowsOnDVD, we've waited a LONG time to bring you this news: Voltron: Defender of the Universe is coming to DVD in September! Earlier this month we reported that Media Blasters, the fan-oriented folks behind the terrific Invader Zim DVD releases, were also going to release the Galaxy High School DVDs as well. Now they have an even bigger project to announce. Let's Go Voltron Force!!

WEP's Voltron.com, as expected, has just launched their site re-design at 12N Central Time today, and it mentions the DVDs in the "Know" section. Media Blasters has set up their own VoltronDVD.com website, which has even more to say:

Voltron: Defender of the Universe has been planned for 8 DVD releases, each one containing three discs, approximately 15 episodes, and as many extras as we can squeeze in. We're preparing premium special edition packaging, an aggressive video restoration process, and remixed 5.1 audio. The goal is to make Voltron look better than it has ever looked before. We'll keep posting updates here about our restoration work, so check back often!

UPCOMING RELEASES

In addition to Voltron: Defender of the Universe, we are planning to release Hundred Beast King GoLion and Armored Squadron Dairugger XV on DVD starting next year. These releases will be completely uncut and in their original Japanese with English Subtitles. Warning: While Voltron is suitable for all ages, GoLion and Dairugger contain violence and other scenes that may be too intense for younger viewers. Please use discretion. Release dates for GoLion and Dairugger are not yet available, but they will be posted here as soon as possible.

That is under the "DVD Info" section at VoltronDVD.com. Following that text are the summaries of the first 15 episodes, which will be found on the first Voltron DVD release! Elsewhere on the new site, there is mention of what Extras are being planned for the DVDs:

We will also present the original character sketches, designs, promos, TV ads, news footage, and other treasures from the 80's. On top of that, we will be creating all new extras with help from the original producers and staff.

Here is the office Media Blasters press release with today's exciting news. Stay tuned for updates, including artwork and other details!

V-DAY HAS ARRIVED!

"From days of long ago, from uncharted regions of the universe, comes a legend..."

New York, NY, March 30, 2006 - Media Blasters is thrilled to announce its biggest release in the history of the AnimeWorks label. In conjunction with World Events Productions, we will be releasing the original, most beloved robot action cartoon ever made...VOLTRON: DEFENDER OF THE UNIVERSE ! Finally, after years of waiting, the series that captured the hearts and imaginations of children and adults alike will be available in special edition DVD boxed sets beginning in September 2006.

With nostalgic animated TV series seeing a resurgence on DVD, one of the biggest to ever hit the airwaves remains absent from the shiny format. VOLTRON was the number one children's program in the United States during its initial run in 1984, beating out DVD heavy hitters like HE-MAN and TRANSFORMERS. And the nation hasn't stopped talking about it since.

VOLTRON continues to be shown on television throughout the world, appears regularly on VH1's "I Love the 80s" and Seth Green’s "Robot Chicken". VOLTRON t-shirts and merchandise are available all over the world. Recently, comic books were published by Devil's Due and new Voltron toys were just released by Toynami this year. And with a blockbuster Hollywood film in the works from producers Mark Gordon (SAVING PRIVATE RYAN) and Pharrell Williams (N.E.R.D.), a
