Who Here Speaks Spanish?

I'm slowly forgetting some of the finer points on conjugating verbs, especially those nasty reflexive ones.

"SE HABLA ESPAÑOL" means "Spanish is spoken here".

But to say "I speak Spanish", would it be "ME HABLO ESPAÑOL" or would it be "SE HABLO ESPAÑOL". Maybe even not reflexive, simply "HABLO ESPAÑOL".

I just don't remember it. Reading all those Spanish sites today, I had to look up 3 or 4 words, and then I also cannot for the life of me remember how to conjugate "LEER" (to read).

LEYO, LEYES, LEYE(?), LEYEMOS, LEYEN. I forgot third person singular.

It may have been a good joke in that virgin movie, but it's true for other things ... "if you don't use it, you lose it"!

Agreed! I'm from Idaho and I used to need to speak Spanish (Mexican version) when dealing with migrant workers. I also used to have a girlfriend who's family spoke primarily Spanish. Since I've been off the farm for more than 20 years I'm practically starting over. I can just pick up bits and pieces now days. It is interesting to see the differences in the language between what residents of Mexico speak and what they do in Spain.

I Speak Spanish would be "Yo Hablo Espanol" or "Hablo Espanol" works too! I tried to remember/figure out how to conjugate Leer, but it didn't look right to me. I sorta don't think there is a Y, but I'm not sure. Ask Pepe

27 years native speaker, 10 years schooled on it. Used it extensively during my masters program

though at times it seems my spanish is no better than Beavis and Butthead, who we all know can just about order off the Taco Bell menu and thats it
