President Idiot signed a whacked-out "energy" bill in 2005. Daylight savings time now starts 3 weeks earlier and goes 1 week later, as of 2007.

Of course, this means any computer hardware, VCR, DVD, etc that has DST auto-settings on it, is now (and will forever be) wrong!

At least with the computer OS (software), you can make changes.

Microsnot insists you must use Windows XP SP2 or Vista or go to hell. I generally have no problems with Microsoft, but that's ridiculous

Here is how you can manually change your Windows settings:
http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/system...indows.html#95

I still use XP SP1, so I'll be doing a manual update.

I've also got the download patch for XP SP2, in case anybody out there has a "borrowed" copy of Windows, and cannot update online. PM me and I'll e-mail it to you.

Boy, this thing has caused all kinds of havoc here at the office. I just happened to be working on a project that sent out Outlook appointments in an email, and of course, it caused problems with that.

If you use Windows 2000 (I have 3 systems running it), you can get an unofficial fix for the DST issue from http://www.intelliadmin.com/blog/200...-daylight.html

Its a pain in the *** for us here at ISU as well

Mac users (OS X 10.3-10.4): go to Software Update if you have not already and download Apples DST fix

http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?...70215150130719

If you have OS 9 and OS X 10.0-10.2 you are going to have to find "alternate methods"

What a freaking mess!

What about VCRS and DVD recorders, anyway to fix those?

I guess I'll do it manually, and then in April, UNDO what it automatically does?

Nope, Bush killed your VCR. Welcome to politics. I never thought I'd see the day where a politician could go so far as to make a VCR clock more difficult.

It makes some sense now, since you've said something. I didn't even think about that. This is really stupid.

Read the link I posted up top (and then scroll down the page a little bit). It gives info on how to manually edit XP SP1. That's what I have to do myself. I'll be doing it Saturday.
