I am trying to track down a old comic, actually the first superman comic I ever read I have no clue what issue or type it was but can give you a breif description.
It was either during the 70s or early 80s i think. Well anyways it mustve been pre crisis, as it was Clark Kent vs. Superman. A few brief panels are all I remember.
One is I remember Clark ripping out a water mein to try to stop Supes.
Another is the end of the fight where the crowd watching carries Clark off victorious.
Or maybe it was on the cover. Can anyone help??

I was collecting heavily in the '70s to mid-'80s, so probably later '80s or later.

This will drive me nuts lol, now I think the cover was Clark being carried off by the crowd, as the new hero with Supes looking on stunned. I am unsure of the title, year or anything though, but they did fight each other in the comic.

My friend said for you to go look at Action, Superman, etc ... over at Lone Star Comics http://www.mycomicshop.com and then look at the covers for the books. They have scans for 90% or more of their comics.

Of course, they didn't have that the other day when I placed my order. I'll have to see what other DC Comics Presents I'm missing and fill a few holes.

Talking of superman beating himself up. Anyone remember the story arc where all the kryptonite on the earth is destroyed and a superman duplicate is made from sand?

I think I found it
Adventures of Superman (1939) 219
It is basically the cover I mentioned above, but there are people knocking over a Superman statue.
Ofcourse my memory is pretty foggy, but this matches my post up a little ways.
