It is being reported that Stephen Sommers has been retained to be the director of the upcoming live-action G.I. Joe movie. Mr. Sommers comes to the project having previously directed all of the Mummy movies as well as the Van Hellsing movie, so he is no stranger to the action movie realm. Paramount is aiming for a summer 2009 release. The cartoon series and the Marvel Comics comic will be used as source material for the film.
