can someone tell me a good tv tuner card or whatever its called for recording from cable to my computer then making the raw mpg files into dvd sets?? need one that has realy good quality.

I use hauppauge cards (PVR150, 250). Just got one with a built-in PVR1600 - can do HDTV recording via cable (clear QAM). The output is awesome.

ok the pvr150 seems to have brightness issues do you know how to fix that? is the 250 better?

I've not had any problems with brightness on the 150. I use SageTV to record.

The PVR150 randomly has IRE/brightness and audio issues. Those cards have multiple production runs from what I've read, so your card from last month may be different from the next one.

I use the Hauppauge 150, 250 and 350. The 350 is by far the best of the lot. They all do a great job though. You really can't go wrong with any of them.

i'll chip in with the ati tv wonder elite or pro or something
is it the 550 or 650?
apparently this gives the best image of all tv capture cards
i have never tried it myself
so its up to you to do some digging

I just started using a new gadget, HDHomeRun, to record HDTV transmissions via clear QAM. Slick device! I captured all of the first 20 episodes of Painkiller Jane just recently, widescreen and very nice video/audio. Of course since HDTV is at 59fps, it takes a while to convert to standard dvd format. But worth the effort.
