The Supreme Court has refused to hear a case that might have allowed the grandaughter of A.A. Milne to recapture the copyright to Winnie the Pooh. Clare Milne sought to use a 1976 copyright law to recapture the rights which her grandfather bequeathed to a trust upon his death in 1956; the Walt Disney Corporation was a co-plaintiff in the case.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals had ruled earlier that Milne had no termination right to exercise due to an agreement made in 1983 between Milne's Pooh Properties Trust, the Walt Disney Company, and Slesinger.
