Spider-Man 3 star Thomas Haden Church had some fun with the film's secrecy during an appearance on NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brien on Friday night.
"I can't declaratively state what arch-villain I am," Church said. "They did say I can say who the guy is, and the guy's Flint Marko. And anybody who knows the comic book knows that Flint Marko has a doppelganging, arch-villainous kind of doppelganger." O'Brien told Church "it's all over the Internet" that he's playing Sandman. Church deadpanned, silent for second, then said, "OK... I may or may not be playing somebody who rhymes with handman. I can't confirm or deny that." Church said he definitely bulked up for the role. "When I met with them last year, they said, we probably need you to get in a specific physically state for the movie, do you mind if you take off your shirt," Church said. "I said, 'Not at all.' So I took off my shirt and Sam Raimi, the director, goes, 'We need you to gain about a hundred pounds of muscle.'" Church said that compounding his problem was that he had gained a bunch of weight for his Oscar-nominated role in Sideways. "That director wanted me to look bloated," he said. In other Spider-Man 3 news, while Sony still won't confirm an upcoming teaser, look for it to be online early in the week.

My guess is they will actually do something with the Lizard in this movie:

He says there are four villains in Spider-Man 3! iF: There are four villains this time, Venom, Sandman, and Green Goblin and when is the fourth going to be revealed? ARAD: Right we have four villains. Pretty soon [we'll reveal the fourth villain] I believe. Maybe around Comic Con we'll reveal something and the madness will begin. Let's just add two more and have the Sinister Six. But seriously, I thing they'll build up to Venom. Just looking at the preview, it seems more like Harry takes the Goblin armor and only wears parts of it. My guess (hope) is that Harry and Sandman work together against Spider-Man and near the end when Peter tries to remove the black suit, Topher Grace sees him and the black suit attaches to him.
It looks like the black suit will be more like the Ultimate universe counterpart. It would take Spider-Man "out" at night while Peter was sleeping and it darkly influenced his behaviour. Notice the clip in the teaser where Peter is dancing with Gwen that he's dress in all black. Just my hopes, based on the 1 minute of footage in the teaser (which I've watched way too many times).
